Strings of Autumn

Remember these string pictures from a while back? They have sort of made their way back into our repertoire these days, in a couple different forms. (After reading this book to my kindergarten co-op class, we made half moon string pictures with purple yarn. They turned out really cute.)

The other project has more of a fall twist. Although it’s just not possible to get around to doing every project I run across, I really do think we’ll have to be making these fall mobiles to grace our table from now until Thanksgiving. They are just darling.

What Happened?

Not a thing. Don’t you worry. Life gets busy for us in the fall, and this one has been no exception. Juggling isn’t something I do well, so I had to drop a ball or two, if you know what I mean. This blog just happens to be one of those balls. It’s pretty much the first to go when the going gets…going.

Soccer, co op classes, school days and projects, travel and birthdays have been occupying our time. Fun, but exhausting. (My girl is the one with the pink shoe laces and weird thumb sticking up. She gets that from me….the thumb thing, I mean.)

I wasn’t completely absent from the web though, and I have some fun links to share, as well the latest birthday party installment, later in the week. (You can see the others, here.)

In celebration of autumn and the gorgeous colors of West Virginia in the fall, here are some easy craft ideas. I thought that among these, I could surely pull off one or two in the next couple weeks. Surely. But we’ll see.

Summer’s Over.

Yep. Last week, we spent a few fabulous days on the Carolina coast. It was great. I feel like summer can officially be over and we can move on to life in the fast lane.

We left temperatures in the upper 80s and came home to fall weather, which means switching out clothes. No complaints here. I do believe this is my favorite time of year and I love sweaters.

So, here’s to saying adios to summer and getting on with autumn. School is starting, house is being organized, fall menus are being planned, soccer is beginning, football is here, pumpkins are everywhere, trees are changing and we’re so ready for it all.

Fawning over Fall

I can’t help myself. We have a rainy coupla days and I am ready for apple cider and pumpkin pie! And football. And sweaters. And scarves. And seeing my breath in the early mornings. And school. And “bouquets of sharpened pencils…” And mums. And really really really blue skies. And the smell of the air. And leaf collecting.

But she’s right. It’s too soon. So I’m slapping on the sunscreen and heading out to pursue the rest of the summer. I just happened to flip through Martha’s 60 days of summer and got lost for a few minutes. That was helpful in this endeavor…

Fun With Leaves

In keeping with our celebration of fall, we’re doing a little of this today, because it looks fun. We have been learning to identify some of the leaf shapes recently, so this will go along perfectly.

Oooh and this also looks fun. I can already see their imaginations at work!

We usually collect autumn leaves at some point during their peak and iron them in between sheets of wax paper to hang in our windows. Very festive and easy-peasy.
