Work to Do (or Not to Do)
Everywhere I turn, there is work to be done. In the midst of getting it all accomplished, I’m trying to include everyone, all the while keeping these things in mind as everyday we learn something new. What a great list of goals! How easy it is to lose sight of what’s really important in the scheme of things that only just seem important right now.
For instance, last weekend, I had big plans for how things would go and for how much we would check off our never-ending to do list. Instead, we ended up cycling through a stomach bug. Who knows….maybe we needed to watch Jungle Book half a dozen times. Maybe we needed to play Connect Four and Guess Who? till we couldn’t see straight. Maybe my kids needed to feel the love and comfort of Mom and Dad in a particular way. Maybe I needed to help them work through the disappointment of missing out on fun things due to illness. Maybe I needed to practice dealing with disappointment too.
My point is, the work can wait. Sometimes we just have to do the work of living and being, so we’re ready to do the work of working when the time comes.
