Birthday Streak: Done!
Our streak of birthdays has ended for a while. Four in a row, and I’m ready for a break! We celebrated my now seven year old last week with a sewing party. After searching high and low for party ideas, I was so inspired by this. How adorable! My little girlie was very interested in being involved in the planning, so I found some ways for her to pitch in and help and off we went to make our own.
I whipped up some drawstring treat bags…
She personalized them with fabric markers. (Have I ever mentioned how much I love those things?)
We also did a button guessing game, which she put together herself. She counted them all, (by tens!) put them in the jar and made a sign for it. And in order to help her with a certain “shyness” issue we’ve been dealing with, she explained the game and helped all the girlies with their guesses. I was really proud of how hospitable she was. One of the smallest guests actually won, with a guess of 200 buttons. (There were actually 245)
Then there was the pillow project, just the same as the other party. While the kiddos ate and played, I stitched up the pillows and then they stuffed them. (best part!) It was pretty quick and all the girls did great! They took home with them their embroidery hoops and needles (in a little felt needle book–easy peasy.)
There was also a finger knitting station and a little “loom” action available to anyone brave enough to try more than one new thing at a time.
Do I bite off more than I can chew? Always. (I’m afraid those last two activities were overkill, and left some feeling more overwhelmed than anything else. It’s alright. There was food.)
Since we had already done cake as a family earlier in the week, we sang to her over this lovely plate of button cookies.
This tired mama attempted to keep things simple and calm by having just a few cousins and a couple close friends present. (I think intimate is best for things that are this involved, and when space is an issue.) So our family birthday streak is over and I can rest for a while! Done.

SO CREATIVE GINA! As the kids get older, I’m definitely going to frequent your site for birthday party ideas- I think Abby’s 2nd birthday will be complete with a tea party and dress up…The sewing will never happen- it takes me 3 days to sew a pillow with a machine (and I mean ALL 72 hours~)
Robin Hood on the other hand…
don’t give up on sewing, natalie. they do make fabric glue if you get desperate!
When I read your blog, I am amazed sometimes by how much we are alike. I have a journal I put things I like from other blogs in. And those sweet button cookies are tucked in there for the perfect occasion. Looks like you found one! Happy Birthday Anne!
corie! i have had the same thought about you…we need to hang out sometime!
I am in love with this sewing birthday party idea. My little girly will be 6 on April 29. I may steal some of these ideas. So cute.
